WORKSHOP SPEAKER

This project was born through my experience at a Canadian summer camp. I worked in the wood workshop in a noisy, chaotic environment (made even more so by the kids running around!). We could never hear our music as the machines and extractor fans made a lot of noise.

This smart speaker has been designed to work in loud, messy environments. It detects the noise level in its immediate surroundings and adjusts its volume accordingly. Its form keeps it out of the way and stops it from cluttering workspaces, It has a low risk of being knocked as large pieces of material are moved around the workshop. Sound exits the product through a cloth layer, where the fabric acts as a barrier to ensure that no dust clogs up the speaker.

The electronic speaker parts were soldered together with an Arduino board so that the speaker could be coded to perform the 'smart' functions mentioned above.
